Ellen, Kathryn and Jake continued the storying camp in Logozohue this morning. All 3 taught at least one story and then conducted the evangelism training. Pastor Jonas and the other participants have eagerly learned the stories, asked deep theological questions, and committed to using the stories to evangelize in Logozohue.
Jenna, Travis, and Austin were following a similar format in Thio all day. Thio is a village deeply immersed in voodoo and filled with people seeking for the Truth that will bring them Life. The storying training with the small group of believers will provide a powerful tool for those believers to reach their lost neighbors. The team will only be in Thio one more day so they are condensing a 4 day training into 2. Pray for discernment on their part as they determine which aspects of the training to teach.
This afternoon, Ellen, Kathryn and Jake travelled to Savalou. The original plan was to do village evangelism. However, being as flexible as they are, when they arrived in Savalou, plans were changed to conducting a 1-1/2 day storying camp.
When Beech Haven first went to Savalou, we discovered a small house church (about 8-10 members). The church was pastored by a woman, Palagea, whose husband, Anseme, lives in another village about 2 hours away. Both Palagea and Anseme are teachers and the government/school officials gave them the different teaching assignments. Palagea is truly passionate about her God and she actually began the church in Savalou--she simply could not not worship and since there was no church, she started one. Since that time, Palagea has moved from Savalou. The small church is struggling without her leadership. The struggles they are facing is what prompted the change in plans. When the team began the storying training this afternoon there were only 3 believers present. Before the end of the day, the number grew to about 15--some believers and some curious seekers. Ellen, Kathryn, and Jake will continue the storying training all day Thursday. Pray for this precious house church that they will grow in supernatural ways and that God will bring them a pastor.
Rain today helped make the heat manageable. The team continues to enjoy the fresh bananas, pineapple, and mango. They also have pounded yam, but are still waiting on the BBQ bush rat!
Each team member has formed strong bonds with the nationals. I was told that Ellen has a constant shadow from some of the children. The musicians on the team have connected through their music. Relationships have definitely been formed through the "hanging out". Saying goodbye will be bittersweet--however, they will be reunited in eternity around the throne of God. Hallelujah!
