After intense but successful storying camps in Logozohue, Savalou and Thio, the team is reunited tonight in Glazoue at the Bethel Hotel. The camp participants approached the training with enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to use the skills learned to reach others for Christ. The believers among the Mahi are extremely grateful for the opportunity to spend time with the team--they have immediately embraced the team members and the lessons they have been taught. As they continue sharing the Gospel using the skills they have learned, pray for doors and hearts to be opened to the message they share.
Even though the team did not share any specific high points from today's training, we know for sure that God was in their midst and that lives were changed. Without a doubt, God blessed each team member as they taught and shared today.
In all honesty, the team members are very tired--maybe even worn out physically. (Everyone is healthy--just tired :) ) The same was true of Christ’s disciples. He had sent them out on a mission. When they returned, they were exhausted. What would Jesus say? “Grab a Red Bull and let’s keep going”? I don’t think so.
Instead, Mark 6:30 notes Jesus saying, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Jesus. Quiet place. Rest. That was his formula for dealing with exhaustion.
Friday morning the team will leave the Bethel and travel back to Cotonou. At best, the drive will take about 1/2 a day. Pray especially for safe travel on the very dangerous and crowded Benin roadways. In Cotonou the team will take a few days for a retreat--time for spiritual and emotional rejuvenation and physical rest. They don't have many things scheduled--that is a good thing. They have been away from home now for a full month. Undoubtedly, the heat, the mosquitoes, the language barriers, the primitive accommodations, the voodoo, have worn them down. The time spent on this retreat will be of vital importance to prepare them to finish strong.
Jesus knows and understands everything we face. I think it is great that He gives us the perfect plan for coping with life when we are worn out and exhausted--just rest. Just Jesus, some quiet, and some rest. Pray that Ellen, Jenna, Kathryn, Austin, Jake, John, Travis, Marc, Calixte, Kossi, and Beo will all be blessed with rest.
Bush Mama
--by the way, to help the next few days truly be a time to relax and rest, I probably will not be skyping for a couple of days. Of course, they will contact me if there is any urgent need. I will try to update before we all head to our churches on Sunday so we can share prayer requests/praises with our church families.
