Had issues with my internet service over the weekend and only had a brief skype conversation with the cell phone this morning--the connection was not good.
I finally got internet service restored and had a great skype conversation using the computer with Kathryn about 11:00 p.m. Benin time. Sunday worship was a real blessing in the church at Aklampka. Later in the afternoon, the team divided up and walked to 2 different villages for evangelizing and prayer walking. After an afternoon of hanging out, storying, and sharing the Gospel, the team accounted for 29 known salvation decisions!!!!!! God is truly at work!
Also on Sunday afternoon, Kathryn and Marc traveled to the next village, Oudeme (wuh day may), to checkout housing. The team will be working with an Assembly of God church in Oudeme (there isn't a Baptist church there). When Kathryn and Marc arrived, the owner of the house said he would rent it to them for 15,000 CFA (about $30) a day. When they finished discussing it, they were able to get the house for 10,000 ($20) for the WEEK! The downside is the accommodations are much more primitive than what they have had in Aklampka. Welcome to the bush:)
Monday, the team will walk the road between Aklampka and Oudeme--it is several kilometers and there are multiple small villages between the two larger villages. There aren't any churches in these little villages--although there are a few believers. The cultural pressures are for a church to actually have a building in which to meet, without a building they aren't really seen as a church. Pray that the team will bring encouragement to the believers and that their numbers will increase so that eventually, they will be able to erect a church to the glory of God.
They will also reach out to the Filani herdsmen. The objective is to simply establish a sense of trust and begin building relationships that will open the door for evangelism at a later date. The moments spent with the Filani will require discernment and sensitivity and will be challenging. Pray for our team members to be wise as they reach out and to sense God's leading.
Tuesday they leave Aklampka and head to Glazoue for a day of rest and rejuvenation. THey will be staying at the Bethel hotel--with running water and air conditioning---if the electricity is working. Hopefully, they will also be able to get a cold coke. It will be important that they take the day to recharge.
All the team members are doing great--Kathryn says everyone is a real trooper! Without a doubt, God has blessed their first week in Benin. Keep praying:)
