Our Benin Team arrived safely in Cotonou, Benin Thursday evening. The trip was smooth and travel was uneventful. The checked luggage was left in Paris and did not arrive in Cotonou until Friday evening. However, the guys had everything they needed immediately in their carryon luggage.
Friday, they had a chance to meet with Marc and begin to get acclimated to West Africa. The guys also had a chance to rest up after a long trip and begin to adjust to the time difference. AB reported that the weather was good.
We were able to talk with AB Saturday morning--around 1:00 p.m. Benin time. All day Saturday, the team led a Conference for pastors from Cotonou, Porto Novo, Ouida, and Calavi. Over 50 pastors attended this conference. Dr. Simms was teaching the entire day--the theme was Priorities for Christian Leaders. There were 7 sessions. At the end of each session, the participants had time for questions and answers. The Q and A time proved to be very beneficial. When talking with AB, he said that Dr. Simms had "knocked it out of the park" with his teaching. It is obvious that God was truly present during this conference and was blessing the time of intensive study. Many of these pastors from the major cities work with churches that have sent workers into the interior of the country to serve as pastors or lay leaders. Some of these workers are people we are working with in the Mahi area. Making a connection with the churches in Cotonou will continue to enhance our work with the Mahi.
Sunday morning, Dr. Simms will be preaching at a church in Cotonou. After lunch, the team will head to Glazoue. Pray for safe travel. The road is full of potholes, is heavily trafficked. and can be quite dangerous. Sunday evening, the team will gather with the church in Glazoue for a time of worship and prayer before heading into the villages on Monday.
The trip is off to a great start! Keep praying.
