Our Benin Mission team has been gone from Athens for 6 days now. In Benin, the days have been long, the temperatures high, and team members are still acclimating to the time change, the food, the heat, the mosquitoes, and the African bush. BUT, the storying training camp has been very well received. The team is in the 3rd day of teaching and training over 40 Mahi pastors, lay leaders, and young adults who are all believers and desire that the Mahi around them become Christians as well. The Camp is providing intense training in "Storying" and evangelism for these young adults, so that they can share the gospel in their respective villages.
The next four days, Friday-Monday, June 1-4 are especially critical. The BHBC Mission Team will divide into teams and go with the Camp participants for some field practice of the evangelization and Storying skills learned in the camp. The Team members will work alongside the Camp participants for encouragement and accountability as the Camp participants tell the stories in the villages and share God's love. The field practice and evangelization will take place in nearby villages that do not have any evangelical presence--just the darkness of Voodoo and African traditional religions. For the first time, the team will truly be out of their comfort zone and possibly, for the first time, the team will really be challenged. Up to this point, they have been surrounded by and interacting with other Christians. As they go into these unchurched villages, they will be surrounded by Voodoo, satanic forces, and people who do not know the LIght of the World. Many of these people may have never even heard the name Jesus. In a sense, being on mission to an unreached people group will suddenly and truly at this point become very real and very challenging spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
Of special importance for the next four days, the BHBC Team members ask you to PRAY -· Pray for the Camp participants that they will enthusiastically and comfortably share the stories they learned in camp. That there will be fruit as these Mahi Christians put into practice the Storying of the gospel that the BHBC Team taught and equipped them to do.· Pray that the Camp participants will continue telling the stories and evangelizing after the BHBC Team leaves.· Pray for our Team members that their experience in the villages will be safe and will open doors for future work in the villages.· Pray especially for the BHBC Team's spiritual protection from satanic and voodoo forces that are so prevalent in the villages.
On Sunday, the Team members will worship in the small church in Aklampka. · Pray for a sweet time of worship with these precious believers and that these Christian nationals will truly be warriors against the darkness of Satan and Voodoo as they share the Light of Christ with their neighbors.
