Met with Mark Idjigberou and Calixte Akplogan. Mark is the adopted son of IMB missionaries Jeff and Barbara Singerman. He has served and will serve as the in-country point person for our trips—handling all the logistics. Mark has hosted lots of groups before. He has worked with an NGO from Canada (GAME) for two years as well with the Peace Corps. Mark is a drug rep. Calixte is one of the translators.
We spent the day with Mark and Calixte, first meeting at the IBIS hotel, then stopping by the U.S. Embassy. We then explored housing options for students in Cotonou and Calavi. We also exchanged money. We gave Marc a gift of diapers and several outfits for his baby. His wife Annie is expecting at the end of June or the first of July.
I was unable to figure out how to turn on the shower and too tired to get the hotel staff to come fix it. I haven't had a shower in two continents and am feeling very African.
